Intersections between Pervasive Computing and Construction Safety
Objectives
A systematic identification of roles for pervasive computing applications for construction safety. Both acute and chronic risk conditions will be examined to develop a strategic framework for research proposals to design, prototype, and evaluate system components. Alerting construction personnel to the precursor events leading to falls, vehicle impacts, electrocution are likely to allow personnel to act to avoid the risk. An additional benefit of a pervasive safety network is to extend the eyes and ears of the superintendent via a jobsite network of sensors that interact, track, and apply logical rules to provide visible, haptic, or audible feedback to the personnel at risk.
