Job Description

Construction Manager   Bechtel is managing a super tall building tower project to be located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and an experienced construction manager is required in 3rd quarter 2008 to lead field operations. The new tower is to be part of a major mixed-use land development project called Kingdom Jeddah planned by our client, a major Saudi developer.  The new tower building will underpin this new development, with the overall development installed cost expected to be up to $15 billion. The tower is currently planned in excess of 1,000 meters in height and it will include a five-star hotel, residential, commercial office and retail.  Bechtel’s team will provide project management services including design review and management, construction management and supervision, cost and scheduling, security and health and safety.   The preferred construction manager candidate shall have a minimum of 20-years of construction industry experience with a minimum of 15-years of experience relating to construction of buildings and similar projects. Candidate shall have advanced experience in structural concrete placement operations and methods including pour planning, formwork, concrete conveyance, reinforcing, form cycling, shoring systems, etc. as well as experience with deep foundations systems such as caissons, drilled piers, piles, cofferdams, sheet piling, dewatering systems, etc. Experience with erection of structural steel framing systems is a plus.  Also, candidate shall have knowledge of relevant building codes and specifications including ACI codes A301- Structural Concrete for Buildings; A305R-Hot Weather Concreting; A318; A347-Formwork as well as ASTM C94 Ready Mix Concrete; ASTM A615 Standard Specifications for Deformed Bars; AWS D1.4 and the CRSI Manual of Standard Practice.  Prior Middle East region projects experience is preferred but not necessary. Responsibilities of the Construction Manager include:1.      Reports to Project Director and responsible for managing job-site operations involving construction management of exceptional height skyscraper, including all on-site activities of Bechtel, contractors, sub-tier contractors, technical services providers and support services providers.2.      Reviews designs prepared by design team for constructability.3.      Manages field manpower organization to ensure the jobsite organization is composed of qualified and knowledgeable personnel, and ensures effective craft utilization.4.      Reviews and approves contractor proposed key personnel.5.      Reviews acceptance criteria for skilled workers, tradesmen and all Manual qualifications.6.      Establishes construction schedules, Manual and NM histograms, materiel and equipment requirements. 7.      Monitors jobsite expenditures, in assigned area, for labor, equipment, materiel and services and ensures field operations are within the budget.8.      Reviews effectiveness of QC activities vs. plan.9.      Implements job-site safety rules and health and safety plans and ensures strict adherence to applicable safety codes.10. Participates in contract negotiations, as necessary.11. Assists in preparation of change order estimates.12. Endorses contractor applications for payments.13. Plans and implements procedures to ensure construction operations are continuously adhering to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules and budget.14. Responsible for coordination of construction operations to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules.15. Ensures that all Bechtel, and KSA national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied in assigned area of responsibility.16. Ensures corporate policies and procedures are fully implemented. Establishes field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures, as necessitated by conditions at a jobsite.17. Identifies long-lead materiel and equipment procurement items.18. Reviews contractor means and methods for compliance with industry standard construction and installation practices and directs corrective actions, as necessary.19. Ensures subordinate personnel receive progressive training to enable them to assume additional responsibilities.
