Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in MLSoC

MLSoC is committed to becoming a destination for top teachers, reserachers and students who are interested in working in or supporting the construction industry. Regardless of who you are or where you come from, if you have a passion for construction and strong work ethic, we want to make sure you feel included in our community.

MLSoC students, faculty and staff come from a variety of cultural, ethnic and racial backgrounds. We ascribe to a variety of political affiliations and faiths. We come from a variety of different places. We all have different experiences that shape our world view.

We stand united in the shared belief that our diversity is our strength.

Our diversity reflects the diversity in our professional world - in the board rooms and on the construction site. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming space for all, so that we're able to better learn from each other's experience.

Our diversity allows us to think about problems in new ways and create better solutions together. Our recognition of how people contribute differently makes us more effective teammates, leaders, thinkers and engaged citizens.

The MLSoC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee conducts research, hosts events, and engages in outreach activities.  The committee is composed of faculty, staff, students and alumni who work to make MLSoC and the construction industry more diverse and inclusive.

If you have questions about diversity and inclusion at Virginia Tech or in the School of Construction, please contact either Josh Iorio (iorio@vt.edu) or Ashley Williamson (ashley.williamson@vt.edu), MLSoC DEI Committee co-chairs.

Virginia Tech supports the Principles of Community, which affirm the value of diversity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff.
