On February 5th, The Myers-Lawson School of Construction sent three student teams to the Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition and Construction Management Conference in Reno, Nevada. 21 students represented the Myers-Lawson School of Construction and competed against numerous universities across the United States. Its always great to connect our students to opportunities that allow them to travel abroad, immerse themselves in different cultures and practice their construction skills. On Tuesday February 5th, the Myers-Lawson School of Construction sent student teams to Reno, Nevada for the 32nd Annual ASC Student Competition and Construction Management Conference. Throughout the week they competed against other student teams in problem categories such as Heavy Civil, Commercial, Mixed Use and Design Build. Results were posted on Saturday February 9th. At the end of the fall semester, seniors completed their Fall 2018 Design/Build Senior Capstone project. The Fall 2018 capstone project scope of work included a full Design Build service proposal for a high rise office building in Alexandria, Virginia. The building will host 4,300 employees and provide conference and meeting facilities for the 6,000 visitors each year. Read more about Fall 2018 Senior Capstones
The Myers-Lawson School of Construction students are comprised of Building Construction and Construction Engineering and Management majors. Building Construction students graduate from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies whereas Construction Engineering and Management students graduate from the College of Engineering. John R. Lawson, Executive Chairman of W.M. Jordan, has been named 2018’s Virginia Business Person of the Year. Lawson was a graduate of Virginia Tech’s Class of ’75 with a degree in geophysics and provided part of the endowment to form the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech in 2006. W.M.
